A Piece That Never Fits

Warm was she,my heart whispered..
Staring at the soulless portrait of my dear wife..
Which was kept away from the bunch of our ancestors
Who were still pulling the strings of our little puppet act..
Through their sharp gazing eyes..

Short and skinny was she,
Her hair pulled back in..
Her head behind her mother’s back..
Wandered through the veranda the sound of her anklets..
Every now and then..
And they still ring in my ears..
Every now and then..

Forbidden was I, to talk with her..
Saying that we belonged to separate bloodlines
Saying that we were like the Earth and the sky..
But all the blood were red..
And no sky existed without the Earth..

When her only relation in this world was gone..
And when the evil eyes set their eyes upon her..
I decided to make her my lady..
Wreaked havoc in the house ,I..in the eyes of others..
But in my eyes,it was the most humanly act I ever committed..

Bed of roses was not her life with me
Nobody considered her as my lady
But she did her duties loudly in the day..
And weeped silently in the night..
Why to consider themselves superior??
When, made of flesh and blood were they, and so was her!!

Once looking into the mirror ,she told
This title and this new attire weigh on me so much..
When there was nothing to eat and little to wear
I was lighter…but wished for these..
But when I know its cost..
My little hut seems like a palace..
And I seemed to be a princess in there..

Embarrassed am I,
In failing to provide her the place she deserved..
In failing to keep her among them..
But……perhaps they were right..
She does not belong with them..
She was too perfect to be fit among them..

Evocative poem masterfully delves into the intricate dance of societal constraints..
